A Revolutionary Delivery

Traffic, lack of parking and costs are many reasons that UK businesses are turning to e-cargo deliveries. Here, we talk to Abhipol, co-owner of Ruay Rôt Thai, about the benefits of becoming the first Hertford e-cargo takeaway service.

The increased use of e-cargo bikes is contributing to cleaner area in town centres, helping reduce congestion, and with a 37% sales growth of e-cargo bikes, a continued growth could see a revolution in private sector logistic operations.

A campaign by Cargo Revolution showed that 17% of deliveries in urban areas could be done by e-cargo bikes., which would save a staggering £270 million in capital costs and £390 million in fuel and maintenance over a four-year cycle.

With the UK government investing millions in active travel in a bid to tackle the country’s climate crisis, can a busy takeaway restaurant cope with high customer demand, on an e-cargo?

Our first Hertford business to put this to the test certainly thinks so.

Providing unique and flavourful Thai cuisine, award winning Ruay Rôt grew their Hertford town customer base, and made the decision to expand their venture into a takeaway around five months ago. Rather than contributing to the increase in delivery drivers in the town centre business owner, Abhipol, visited Highway Cycles, with the plan to invest in a more environmentally friendly and cost saving long-term solution.

Abhipol said: “I was drawn to the Trek Fetch+, as a starter delivery e-cargo, due to its easy-to-ride frame and the ability to carry food deliveries safely and securely on the back, and I was advised it had a reputation as a competent haulage e-cargo. I’ve been using the Fetch+ daily to deliver takeaways now, and customers love the personal experience of a delivery on an e-bike, where we can have a proper conversation.”

Whilst staying streamlined and lightweight, the Trek Fetch+ can haul serious loads of up to 80kg, with its powerful Bosch system, which have ensure that Abhipol can conquer even the steepest of Hertford’s hills. The compact cargo has many carrying options, which means Abhipol has been able to adapt to the level of food orders required, and even transports his two children on days off.

He added: “I’ve had no regrets on purchasing our e-cargo, I can get across Hertford in a matter of minutes, overtake the congestion, and save our business money in the long run- not to mention, our food is piping hot on delivery. We’ve now gone on to feature our authentic food on Deliveroo, Just Eat and many other apps. We will be looking to expand our e-cargo fleet in the future.”
